Overview

Continental, Inc.—a Professional Staffing and Recruitment Company, has a client in Central Indiana looking for Diesel Electric Locomotive Electricians.

Responsibilities

This position:

Maintains electrical equipment on diesel/electric locomotives Including their propulsion systems, electronic controls, lighting, generators, battery charging systems, CAB signal systems, heating & air condition systems and industrial wiring.

  • Inspect, service and maintain locomotives, in accordance with federal and company regulations, including troubleshooting or repairing, replacing, cleaning and adjusting parts.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose diesel engine malfunctions and make required repairs.
  • Assemble and start engines.
  • Use test equipment, lubrication equipment and other vehicle repair tools and equipment, and operate said tools and machinery in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Prepare inspection, maintenance, and work reports, and record details on prescribed forms in accordance with established procedures.
  • Operate locomotive on shop tracks.
  • Test locomotives on shop track after repair.
  • Work in a shop environment and outside in all weather conditions
  • Occasionally work in confined spaces and at elevated heights
  • Frequent stooping, lifting, kneeling, bending, crouching and climbing.
  • Minimal travel required
  • Plan and coordinate work activities, determine equipment needs and develop sequences of steps to get work completed
  • Work shift work, which consists of: Irregular hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and occasional required overtime.
  • Work in a shop environment and outside in all weather conditions
  • Occasionally work in confined spaces and at elevated heights
  • Frequent stooping, lifting, kneeling, bending, crouching and climbing.
  • Required lifting of up to 75lbs.

Qualifications

Key qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook and comfort with technology
  • Skilled at reading and following blueprints and electrical schematics
  • Must meet all medical fitness duty requirements for the position
  • Mechanical/technical aptitude
  • Ability to informally lead others, including directing work and coaching for improvement
  • Demonstrated focus on safety, quality, customer service and goal attainment
  • Self-driven, reliable and able to work independently even under pressure
  • Solid planning, organizing, time management, communication and problem solving skills
  • Strong team work and collaboration with peers and leaders
  • Displays good hand-eye coordination
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
  • Must be available to work all shifts
